ABSc outstanding showing at ASAS-CSAS

We are thrilled to announce the remarkable success of our faculty and graduate students from the Department of Animal Biosciences at the 2025 American Society of Animal Science and Canadian Society of Animal Science (ASAS-CSAS) Annual Meeting, held in Madison, Wisconsin.

Our department was strongly represented, and we are proud to share that many faculty and students were recognized with national and international awards—a reflection of our department’s strength in research, innovation, and training.

Faculty Recognition

  • Dr. Michael Steele received the Canadian Animal Industries Award in Extension and Public Service, recognizing his outstanding leadership in translating animal science knowledge into impact across the livestock industry.
  • Dr. Christine Baes was awarded the Technical Innovation in Enhancing Production of Safe Affordable Food, in recognition of her innovative work in animal breeding and genomic selection.

Graduate Student Competition Awards – CSAS

Our students swept the PhD Oral Presentation Competition—a rare and outstanding achievement!

PhD Oral Presentation Competition

  • 1st Place – Nicole Moran
  • 2nd Place – Julia Rodrigues
  • 3rd Place – Titouan Chapelain

MSc Oral Presentation Competition

  • 1st Place – Avalon Phillips
  • 2nd Place – Baran Amini

Companion Animal Oral Presentation Competition

  • 3rd Place – Pawan Singh

These awards are a testament to the scientific excellence and presentation skills of our graduate students, and the mentorship they receive in our department.

Travel Awards

In addition to the competition winners, several of our students were also awarded Braithwaite Travel Scholarships to attend ASAS-CSAS:
